Acupuncture

The practice of using needles as a form of health care started in China over 4,000 years ago.  The needles, which are solid (filiform), are inserted into the body in order to unblock, reduce, or support Qi.  Qi is the vital force within all of us.  Our Qi, or energy, travels throughout our body and we have hundreds of acupuncture points located head to toe.

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine are used to treat symptoms of: Allergies, asthma, common colds and flus, upper respiratory infections, arthritis, low back pain, recovery from surgery, scar therapy, joint pain, headaches, reproductive health including fertility, libido, menstrual cycle regulation, PMS, endometriosis, and fibroids, insomnia, mental-emotional health such as anxiety, depression, and stress, whether generalized or acute.  Chinese medicine can work as a preventative and also aids in the general relaxation and increased immune system of our body.

Other Modalities

Auricular Acupuncture: Our ears are a microcosm of our body.  Points inserted on the ear correspond to areas all over the body.  Certain point combinations are used to help with smoking cessation, addictions and cravings, PTSD, and detoxification as well as many other ailments.

Moxabustion: a heat therapy using dried mugwort (Artemesia).  It can be used indirectly over the skin, on the handles of needles for warming Acupuncture, or directly on the skin (with a barrier of salve).  It is used to warm, tonify, and support the individual’s immune system.

Electro-Acupuncture: Once needles are inserted, an electrical current is passed through them using an electro machine.  The gentle electrical current can be used for long-term injuries, as well as musculo-skeletal conditions.

Cupping: a treatment involving heating the air in a glass cup which is immediately applied to the skin.  This creates a suction, which in turn helps to draw out toxins in the body.  It is very useful for muscle tension as well as for the halting the onset of a cold.  Cupping has been in the American spotlight more since the 2016 Olympics.  It works up to 4 inches below the surface of the skin helping to loosen knots, muscle tension, scar tissue, and and to promote circulation.
